Have you been to a ‘tweet-up’?
One thing I really enjoy about having my own business is being able to mix with the local business community. I regularly attend local events and networking with other business owners, sharing challenges and solutions and having a general catch up about life! I interact in Facebook Groups but LinkedIn and Twitter are the sites I network on most. They are great for not only meeting new people, but also to maintain relationships with people I have met.
I regularly take part in ‘twitter hours’ which are weekly chats on twitter where people with a common interest get together to have either a focussed, or general chat. I regularly join the regional twitter chats of @Devon_Hour and @Exeter_Hour. At a recent launch event for a local business I was fortunate to meet the lady who runs @Exeter_Hour and we talked about how she would like to arrange for people who join in the weekly chat to meet up.
“Arranged by @Exeter_Hour, @Devon_Hour and @ExploringExeter we all met up – had a ‘tweet-up’”
This event happened, arranged by @Exeter_Hour, @Devon_Hour and @ExploringExeter we all met up – had a ‘tweet-up’. Our name badges steered away from the traditional of having our names on, and instead had our twitter handles so we knew who we were talking to. We met in a local pub just before the time we would normally be on line chatting and had the chance to meet each other before the room went (almost) silent and everyone joined @Exeter_Hour on the twitter hour.
It was a brilliant evening and really great to put names to so many twitter handles!
You can start your own twitter hour, or join an existing one.
Which ones do you take part in and what do you get out of them? Let me know.
